Thayer Family: Evan, Layla, Kendall, and Kramer
Evan G. Thayer grew up in a family-owned and operated funeral home in Indiana, watching his parents work visitations and funerals from his perch on the landing between the funeral home area and the apartment upstairs where they lived. It was from that time and vantage point that he was raised a funeral director.
After graduation, he attended Mid-America Mortuary School where he obtained his degree and was licensed. He found his home on Main Street at a young age and has been in service to the community ever since. He is married to Layla C. Thayer and they are the parents of two funeral home kids, Kendall and Kramer. They are active members of Gospel Mission Church and are involved in several civic and fraternal associations in the community.
He enjoys good cigars, spending time on the river with his family, and telling stories, often answering questions that should take a few words in the form of a ten- or fifteen- minute story quoting family, mentors, and historical figures. His wife, Layla, is active with the local volunteer fire department, is an EMT, and a deputy coroner. Together as a family, they serve the community and consider it a privilege to do so.
Gary Jones has been licensed in Indiana for over 30 years. He graduated in 1986 from Mid-America College of Funeral Service in Jeffersonville, Indiana. Gary has belonged to the Knights of Columbus for over 30 years and is a member of the Catholic faith. He and his wife Annette have two adult children, Megan and Everitt.
Gary’s attention to detail and ability to direct a funeral comes effortlessly and is carried out with professionalism. Gary has a witty sense of humor that is comforting and uplifting as he helps families navigate through the grieving process. Gary doesn’t know a stranger and is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to death care.
Laura Harris came to Boultinghouse Funeral Home in February 2017 to serve as Office Manager. She is a graduate of South Spencer High School and has worked 20+ years in the banking industry, most recently as a QC Auditor for a large mortgage company. She is very detail oriented and enjoys working with the families that we serve at the funeral home.
Laura has lived in Rockport most of her life. She is the daughter of Rod and Faye McBride, and the late Marie McBride. Laura is married to Jeff Harris and they have two children, Nolan and Delaney.
Laura and her family are members of The Gospel Mission Church in Rockport. Laura is a member of the worship team at church and works with the VBS program each year. Laura also has a successful crochet business, loves dogs (especially her fur babies, Rebel and Wrigley), and coffee.
Carl Jones is a funeral associate at Boultinghouse Funeral Home. He is a graduate of South Spencer High School and is also a retired member of Laborers Local 561, having retired after 34 years of service. He has been the pastor at Bakers Creek Baptist Church in Eureka, Indiana for the past 23 years.
Carl and his wife Elaine, have been married for 33 years. They have two children, Jonathan and Jason, and a daughter-in-law, Heather, who is married to Jonathan.
Matt has been with the funeral home for almost three years, in a full-time and part-time role. He does many things within the funeral home and enjoys serving the families that he comes in contact with.
Matt is a 1998 graduate of Heritage Hills High School and also a 2016 graduate from Oakland City University with a degree in business management. Matt is currently enrolled at Mid-America College of Funeral Service to become a licensed funeral director.
Matt has been married for 22 years to his wife, Courtney, and they have three children. He also serves as the pastor of Tennyson Community Fellowship. Matt was born and raised in Spencer County. He and his family currently reside in the Warrick county area.
My name is Doug Patmore, and I am a funeral associate at Boultinghouse Funeral Home.
I am a retired Rockport City police officer, where I held various positions including Chief of Police. I have also served with the Spencer County Coroner's Office as Chief Deputy.
I am a member of the Indiana Association of Chiefs of Police, Eureka Masonic Lodge #397, Scottish Rite- Valley of Evansville, Evansville York Rite Bodies, York Rite Sovereign College, Allied Masonic Degree, Red Cross of Constantine, and Yeomen of York. I am also a Hadi Shriner. I currently serve the Indiana Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of the State of Indiana as the Grand Steward & Tyler and served as the Grand Marshal in 2015-2016.
It is my personal goal to assist in providing the best services possible, with the utmost caring and compassion in times of need while working at Boultinghouse Funeral Home.
Richard Barnett is the maintenance provider at Boultinghouse Funeral Home. He is a retired sheet metal worker, having worked 37 years in the industry. He is a Tennessee native, but moved to the Rockport area in the early 1980's. He has 3 children.
Judy Barnett is the housekeeping provider at the funeral home. She retired from Daviess County Hospital after 16 years of service. Judy is a native of Ellettsville, Indiana, moving to the Rockport area in 1969. She has 2 children.
Richard and Judy enjoy gardening and yard work in their spare time. They also enjoy trips to Gatlinburg and their little Pekingese, Ginger. Richard is also a skilled woodworker. Richard and Judy agree that their jobs with the funeral home are a good fit for someone retired.
